My 10th year

I have never realized that I have been working at this company for 10 years.
If I were a footballer who played in any English clubs, I would have been arranged the testimonial match.

I remembered that the first time I knew about Sahamongkol film, I had a negative feeling with it.
2 decades ago, Sahamongkol was labeled as “ Z” grade production company which constantly produced soft porn horror movie.
However, in the year that I started working (1997), my boss tried his best to change the image of the company.
We began to acquire high quality American movies including Lord of the Rings Triology, Notting Hill, etc.
In terms of production, movies like Ong Bak ( “Mach” when released in Japan) and Tom Yum Goong turned the Z Graded look to the leading film company in Thailand over night.

I started working here as a database staff. My duty is to translate production notes of foreign movies my boss bought into Thai so that PR people could deliver to press.
I had been stuck in this position for 2 years until there was a turning point occurred to my life. I remembered that day clearly.
I met the president by accident in the toilet. He simply asked me how long I had worked here.
I replied him“2 years” Then he said “ I heard your English is ok then you move to the foreign department next week.”

Because of that sentence my life completely changed.
I moved to the new department a week later. And have gotten stuck here since then. However, what is good for me is that I have been given chances to buy movies I like including Nobody Knows, Hidden, Barbarian Invasion, Persepolis,..etc.
When those movies were released, I felt like being a filmmaker who followed up the result of the box office of his movie excitingly.
When the result turned badly, my face looked very bad obviously.
On contrary, if the films performed well financially, I could not veal my feeling at all.

My 10th year is around the corner. I don’t know what it will be. All I can say is that I get trapped in the film world. And I’m really happy to get stuck here.
