Street Show In Bangkok Last weekend we just had the festival “International Street Show” at Lumpini Park. It was the great event and could draw much attention from Bangkok people.There were over 40 groups of street performances and most were from Japan. You can enjoy with various performances such as mime, clowning, juggling, acrobatics, and etc… (I just guess that most groups are from Japan, because now there is the Ja
There were over 40 groups of street performances and most were from Japan. You can enjoy with various performances such as mime, clowning, juggling, acrobatics, and etc… (I just guess that most groups are from Japan, because now there is the Japanese show ‘Kasou Taisho’ broadcasting on Thai TV and have so good feedback.)
The place is very big and there are 11 stages, so I have to choose and make my own plan. And these were some groups that I had seen.
‘Acromagic’: The Thai acrobat artist who entertain audiences with fun and exciting acrobat.

‘SIVOUPLAIT’: The Japanese duo who perform mime with storylines about family and love. They became one highlight because they were chosen to appear on Thai hit TV show ‘Ching Roi Ching Larn’ before the festival. I really love their performance, they can make audiences laugh with their skills in facial expression and body language.
‘DABU’: The Japanese trio who perform thrilling acrobatics. Their sense of humor and acrobatic skills could impress Thai audiences.

‘Exotic Percussion’: The group of Thai boys who create music from various percussions. Their amazing beat and live performance can make you move. I had seen their shows before and can see their outstanding progress.

I think the charm of street performance is the interaction between performers and audiences. You can see it lively and closely, and sometimes you might get a chance to join with the performers. I’m really happy this event was successful. And wish that Thai people will have chance to enjoy the great festival like this again!

In December, there are 2 interesting Thai romantic films that I want to introduce.
The First One is “Happy Birthday”
“Happy Birthday” is the reunion project of the members from “Me Myself” which was well-acclaimed. The same couple ‘Ananda’ and ‘Am Chayanan’ return to work with the director ‘Pongpat,’ added with the top screenwriter ‘Kongdej’ (The screenwriter of Thai “Love Letter” and writer/director of “Midnight My Love”)
This is the 2nd movie directed by the veteran actor ‘Pongpat’ (Actor in “Suriyothai” and “Chocolate”). In this film, Pongpat wants to reflect the real love and sacrifice that exist but rarely seen nowadays.

The romantic drama “Happy Birthday” is the love story of a photographer ‘Ten’ (Ananda) and a tourist guide ‘Pao’ (Am) who get to know each other through the travel book. Their relation gradually built up, but unfortunately Pao got into a car accident on Ten’s birthday. The present didn’t reach to him, except the birthday card with a message “Promise to take care each other forever…” And this is the beginning to prove his promise.
Some Thai audiences might get tired of Ananda, because this is his 6th films in the year 2008. But some say “This is his best acting since ‘The Shutter.’
“4 Romances” is the attractive romantic movie that contains 4 love stories by 4 Thai top directors. The film has gathered over 10 Thai famous stars such as ‘Chakrit Yamnam,’ ‘Nook-Soottida,’ ‘Saipan-Apinya,’ including the stars from “Love of Siam” (‘Mario Maurer,’ ‘Pich-Witwisit’ and ‘Tarn-Kanya.’)
“Fan” (Dream): Is the story of a teen girl ‘Tonkao’ who’s crazy for the music band ‘August.’ She has a fantasy adventure with August in her unforgettable dream.
“Waan” (Sweet): Is the story of the couple that stays together over 10 years. Their sweetness begins to lessen, the way out is to turn back the sweet memory.
“Ai” (Shy): Is the story of a shy guy ‘Durian’ who escapes from love to hiding at the Andaman sea. What will happen when he comes across with his old love ‘Tong’ on the exotic island.
“Joob” (Kiss): Is the story of a young boy ‘Mee’ who tries to save the first kiss of his girlfriend ‘Kaka’ from the bad boy ‘Ped.’

Trinh Tuan’s lacquer painting: ‘Tomorrow is Another Day’ (L), ‘Shaken’ (R)
First one is from Thavibu Gallery… It presents “My Autumn,” the lacquer art exhibition by Vietnamese artist ‘Trinh Tuan.’ The top lacquer artist creates the impressionist/romantic art by using lacquer on board as a medium.
The next one is “Losing Face” at The Gallery. The selective artworks by ‘Tanawat Suriyatongtam’ portray the dark side of human: greedy, obsession and destruction.

And the main highlight is “Game Goal Goong” (Game / Trick / Cheat) at Artery Gallery. The political satire artist ‘Jittagarn Kaewtinkoy’ criticizes Thai politician intensely, especially the ‘Thaksin Regime.’ (Thaksin Regime is the specific word means ‘The politic under Mr.Thaksin’s empire.)

I like the character design, bold color and strong message that appear on his artworks. Luckily, we had met the real artist and talked together. He thinks art is the proper media for Thai people, because it can portray all political highlights in one picture. And moreover, it lasts longer if compare to the political comics.
