December…
“The coldest month in many countries”
“The season of greetings”
And some might say, “The most romantic month!”

In this month you may feel that love is all around.
And it’s cold, so it’s better to have someone beside.
Someone who can give you a warm hug!
(And may be that’s why there are so many romantic movies! ha ha ha ;->)

Let’s get to the point!

In December, there are 2 interesting Thai romantic films that I want to introduce.

The First One is “Happy Birthday”




“Happy Birthday” is the reunion project of the members from “Me Myself” which was well-acclaimed. The same couple ‘Ananda’ and ‘Am Chayanan’ return to work with the director ‘Pongpat,’ added with the top screenwriter ‘Kongdej’ (The screenwriter of Thai “Love Letter” and writer/director of “Midnight My Love”)

This is the 2nd movie directed by the veteran actor ‘Pongpat’ (Actor in “Suriyothai” and “Chocolate”). In this film, Pongpat wants to reflect the real love and sacrifice that exist but rarely seen nowadays.

The romantic drama “Happy Birthday” is the love story of a photographer ‘Ten’ (Ananda) and a tourist guide ‘Pao’ (Am) who get to know each other through the travel book. Their relation gradually built up, but unfortunately Pao got into a car accident on Ten’s birthday. The present didn’t reach to him, except the birthday card with a message “Promise to take care each other forever…” And this is the beginning to prove his promise.

Some Thai audiences might get tired of Ananda, because this is his 6th films in the year 2008. But some say “This is his best acting since ‘The Shutter.’

“Happy Birthday” will hit the screen on Dec 18th.

And the second one is “4 Romances”



“4 Romances” is the attractive romantic movie that contains 4 love stories by 4 Thai top directors. The film has gathered over 10 Thai famous stars such as ‘Chakrit Yamnam,’ ‘Nook-Soottida,’ ‘Saipan-Apinya,’ including the stars from “Love of Siam” (‘Mario Maurer,’ ‘Pich-Witwisit’ and ‘Tarn-Kanya.’)

“Fan” (Dream): Is the story of a teen girl ‘Tonkao’ who’s crazy for the music band ‘August.’ She has a fantasy adventure with August in her unforgettable dream.

“Waan” (Sweet): Is the story of the couple that stays together over 10 years. Their sweetness begins to lessen, the way out is to turn back the sweet memory.

“Ai” (Shy): Is the story of a shy guy ‘Durian’ who escapes from love to hiding at the Andaman sea. What will happen when he comes across with his old love ‘Tong’ on the exotic island.

“Joob” (Kiss): Is the story of a young boy ‘Mee’ who tries to save the first kiss of his girlfriend ‘Kaka’ from the bad boy ‘Ped.’

12月に公開されたタイの恋愛映画で紹介したい作品が二つ。

まずは「ハッピー・バースデー」



「ハッピー・バースデー」は人気映画「ミー・マイセルフ（わたし自身）」のメンバーが再結成した作品。アナンダとAm Chayananの同じカップルをポンパットが監督、そして人気脚本家のKongdejも参加。（タイ映画「ラブレター」の脚本、そして「ミッドナイト・マイ・ラブ」の脚本／監督）

この映画はベテラン俳優ポンパット（「スリヨータイ」や「チョコレート」の俳優）の監督二作目。この映画でポンパットは、実際にあったが最近ではほとんど見ることがなくなってしまった真の愛と犠牲を描いています。

ロマンチックドラマ「ハッピー・バースデー」は旅行ガイド本を通じて知り合った写真かテン（アナンダ）と旅行ガイドパオ（Am）のラブストーリー。二人の関係は徐々に深まって行くが、不幸にもパオはテンの誕生日に交通事故に遭ってしまう。プレゼントは彼には届かないが、代わりにメッセージが書かれたバースデーカードが。「お互いを永遠に大切にすると約束してね...」そしてかれはその約束を果たそうとするのです。

アナンダはこの映画で2008年の出演が6本目。飽きている観客もいるでしょう。しかし、『心霊写真』以来の最高の演技と言う人たちもいます。

「ハッピー・バースデー」は12月18日公開。

そして二本目は「4ロマンス（4 Romances）」



「４ロマンス」は４人の人気監督による、４つのラブストーリーから構成された魅力的な恋愛映画。Chakrit Yamnam、Nook-Soottida、Saipan-Apinyaや「Love of Siam」のスター（マリオ・マーラー、Pich-Witwisit、Tarn-Kanya）を含む10人以上のタイの有名俳優が集結しています。

「ファン（夢）」：バンドのオーガストにはまっている10代の女の子トンカオの話。彼女の夢の中で展開される、オーガストとのファンタジーアドベンチャー。

「ワーン（スイート）」：10年以上付き合っているカップルの話。当時のスイートの関係が崩れて来た二人は、昔の甘い記憶を辿って行くことに。

「アイ（シャイ）」：恋愛から逃げるためにアンダマン海にやって来たシャイナ青年ドリアンの話。エキゾチックな島で、付き合っていたトンに偶然出会ってしまう。

「ジョーブ（キス）」：ガールフレンドカカのファーストキスを不良少年ペットから守ろうとする少年ミーの話。
